Fucimori at the time was popular. He justified what he did rightly or wrongly as necessary to tackle a terrorist campaign by the Shining Path, Maoist Group. But Mr Castillo was weak, incompetent, unpopular and turned quite a lot of the left against him. So it was a pretty disastrous move all around. Now that he's out of office, where does this leave the country and his successor? The issue is whether Dina Bonawarte will be able to form a stable, coherent, and competent government.
