What Happened to Cholera in India in 1817?
Until 1817, cholera was confined entirely to India. It would pop up occasionally and cause an epidemic during religious pilgrimages. The world in 1817 was pretty perfect in terms of opportunities for cholera pandemics. Maybe one or two cholera victims hitched a ride on a ship or caravan heading east.
