Mortal Kombat has always done a relatively good job of world-building. Even when it was in its kind of wilderness, I think they still did a decent job. Every stage offered something, whether it was a stage fatality or a little time. But it was a reality or a little tease as to what it meant for the lore. And that's something that helps to create that connection between the community and the developers.
