Singer-songwriters can become so comfortable with what they do that it starts affecting their creative process. Tom York said he really enjoyed writing on guitar because he didn't really know how to play guitar. He realized he was too good at guitar and it wasn't interesting anymore, started doing piano. When that got too easy, he started messing around with electronic sampling. This is a couple of songs in this record where the tone gets more mournful than usual.
