Stephen McCann's Vision on the Beach
Stephen McCann's Vitanuova opens with a description of the circumstances that brought about his writing. He is ready to take flight from Ireland, for Ireland spreads nets, as all social orders do,. When the soul of a man is born in this country, there are nets flung at it and I shall try to fly by those nets. The main image of change being not Marx, but Tsar Nicholas II, who was a man. But Stephen says, keep your icon. If we must have a Jesus, let us have a legitimate Jesus. Our own effort saves us.
