Simple squamous epithelia aren't there for diffusion per se. They actually produce and secrete fluid fluid. Now, but interestingly, they can also do absorption or diffusion. And so you may have heard the cancer called mesothelioma. Which is generally a risk factor for that is asbestos. Yes. So breathing in this fiber that comes... I guess it's natural, right?

One of the four tissue types of the body, epithelia lines and protects our organs from the external and internal environment. In this episode, Dr Matt & Dr Mike explain how the different shape and layers of epithelia tell you what function it performs (form = functions) and highlight examples in the body where you can find each type. They also explore cancer, metaplasia, dysplasia, and Dr Matt's mums skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
