David rubenstein talks to methanks about his new book, The American Experiment. He says he learned a lot from the interviews that went into writing it. His advice for people who want to be mentors? It takes a lot of time and you have to put in a lot of effort. But i wouldn't obsess over having a mentoer - if you can't find somebody as good as him or her, they're probably not helpful.

Baltimore native David Rubenstein is a founding figure in private equity, a prolific philanthropist, and author. From leveraged buyouts to his patriotic philanthropy to his leadership roles within institutions like the Smithsonian, Kennedy Center, and the National Gallery of Art, David has spent much of his life evaluating what makes institutions—and people—succeed.
