Functional Programming
functional programming has a long history, beginning with lisp. It grew mostly in academia because of its roots in lambde calculus and theorem proving. No one really knows why it's increasing in popularity but big names in the industry have been warning people that we need it. And coupled with the fact that most softs wear. anything you want to be able to run anything you want on your computer is just an opportunistic thing.
