Brahms never wrote music in such a direct way as to be about one single person. Clara would write to him for advice on performance, things going on at home and just about general life itself. After clara's death, almost missed her funeral due to a series of mishaps. But they also retained a love and admiration for each other that went beyond their infatuations. They were steadfast, lifelong friends.
