Peterson's construction of contemporary social activism as a nihilistic and dangerous threat to Western values is dependent on the axiom that the fundamental assumptions of Western civilization are valid. Though Peterson centers most of his core arguments around or on this fundamental assumption, his appreciation of Frederick Nietzsche remains unshaken. The shift from language to science placed the scientific method at the forefront of Western civilization - making everything quantifiable under the scientific gaze. In the birth of tragedy Nietzsche argues that the notions of truth that run through the course of history are founded not on their objectivity, but in the continual self proclamation of objectivity.
