If you know a lot of things and something new comes in, if it's something new that connects to your old knowledge then it's going to be easy to remember. But maybe if you don't have any knowledge of that field or your knowledge of the field is very poor instead of 20% of it being retained after one impression, maybe only 2% of it was going to be retained. In which case obviously your learning is going to be slower and it’s going to take longer. So anyway that's enough about the anti-knowledge messages. One last thing that I want to mention from this chapter is that factual knowledge also improves memory. It's just the matter effect again that
