The Supreme Court's Decision in the Endo Case Was Academic

Mitsuyi Endo won her case against unlawful imprisonment the day after President Roosevelt had opened the camps. Justice Frank Murphy's dissent built on the critiques he'd made in the Bayashi case. In 1948, Congress approved payments of more than $37 million to settle claims from over 26,000 Japanese Americans who had been detained during the war. Fred Korematsu and Gordon Hirabayashi would finally get a second chance at justice.
