How to Get Things Done

You need an external system to get things done, but it needs to be practical. You should know enough about what your job is and what you're committed to doing so that if something changes, it shouldn't completely throw you off. If you just keep adding stuff to a list without ever taking stuff off the list, then that list is dead. Every task that goes on my list is a physical thing that I can describe doing to somebody that I plan to do in the next two weeks. That's my system. So what we'll talk about next week is getting things done and how to get started with it.
