Gish Jen Reads Grace Paley

The New Yorker: Fiction

CHAPTER

Grace Paley's Friends, by Gishjen

The story appeared in the new yorker in june 19 79, and was included in the collection later the same which was published by ferrar strauss and jere in 19 85. So gish paley starts this story in the middle of a scene with no explanations, no identification of the characters,. We just get to put us at our ease, to quiet our hearts as she lay dying. And i think that's a kind of announcement that this story is about voice and it's about talking.
