There can be a kind of catch-22 in portraying countries at war. For people who haven't experienced that kind of tragedy, it feels very abstract and far away. When you normalize that visa, flesh, and bat human beings who are trying as best they can to go about their lives, then it can somehow play into this narrative: "Oh, look, they're living it up," he says.
