Three of the pitecell children were still missing, ten weeks after benjamin's death. A philadelphia detective named frank geyser was determined to find the answer. Using letters that little alice and nellie had written to their mother over the weeks they were dragged from place to place by their captor,. doctor holmes kept their letters in a metal box which police would find among his possessions on july fifteenth. It wasn't until weeks later, on august 20 seventh, that detective geyser finally succeeded in finding the third missing pitesell child, eight year old howard.
