The Impact of Microbiota on Colonic Anastomosis After Surgery

Roy: The microbiota of patients with colorectal cancer, before surgery, have a tremendous impact on the healing of their colonic anastomosis after surgery. We identified several bacterial strains that seemed to influence the sealing process by regulating the level of inflammation locally in the anastomaric wound. And this allowed us to identify a major mechanism through which the microbiota influences anastomary heating.
