The Creative Impulse of Speculative Fiction

K-Dix: I think there's a real kind of voyeuristic fantasy about wanting to live in a world where everyone's died or with totalitarian government. But then there's also the immense creative impulse that comes from that where people actually build worlds where these are possibilities. These are two very different things and I think you get something like 1984. The difference between what survives which is that element of let's all imagine a really bad totalitarian state with no regard for the truth. And it makes you think, how can I be part of this or not? How can I stop this or how can I create this?"
