The Patriot Act: A Bridge Too Far

When the Patriot Act was introduced 22 years ago, even in that climate, it was still a bridge too far. The New York Times and Washington bipartisan Washington ruling class had to keep coming and saying, look, we know this is radical. It's now just part of our reality. No one thinks about the Patriot Act anymore as being this grave threat because it's been normalized. And every time we let one of those things go, we allow a little more censorship on the Internet. We allowed you to make it a crime for social media companies to platform Russian media if they want to. You almost can't be bothered to recollect that three years ago these measures were introduced.
