The Persian casualty number was probably a wild guess, but the Greek casualty number seems to be correct. Herodotus would have been able to count them up. So it seems unlikely that any signal was even given. Perhaps this was a slanderous tale concocted to discredit the Alkmianidae. It would jive with Klyce than he's being wiped off the historical record at the end of the 6th century BC.
