"I always felt like I was writing imperfect stories at the paper just too quick. You know, hasty," he says of his early days in newspapers. "Magazines gave you the chance to really dig into something and Esquire in particular, I think, was one of a handful of magazines where they would really invest in a story" He adds: "The economics of it don't really make sense."
