i have seen english poise which might have been interpreted as something else, nervelessness, in operations. i am ed to trace its origins to similar casual happenings. I probably wouldn't even have noticed my own aplom if a finn who was standing by, earnest student of the english as he was, had not identified it and plimented me. In fact, i have almost certainly caught the habit. No one can be as calculatedly rude as the british. Which amazes americans who do not understand studied insult and can only offer abuse as a substitute.
