Seneca's Stoicism Appealed to Early Christian Thinkers
Seneca was one of the richest men in the Roman Empire. He ate very simple fare and he, you know, also he has two very famous essays on slavery. When you read Seneca's essays, you find a kind of stoicism that's deeply sympathetic to Christian sensibilities. This is entirely consistent with the church fathers. But in fact, they loved him because they saw him as friends with St. Paul.
