Cyrus Was a Slave

No man, Greek or barbarian, has ever been loved by a greater number of people. The best men went over to Cyrus because they thought that if they were deserved, they would gain a worthier reward with Cyrus than with the king. When he died, namely, all his bodyguard of friends and table companions died fighting in his defense. Such a man was Cyrus in Xenophon's eyes.
