literary theory really starts way back with the Greeks with Plato and even he so one of the prominent theories will be talking about his semiotics or structuralism. The real question of literary theory is an epistemological one how do we know anything about the world? This will be the primary question of deconstruction for example when the the shift turns away from the text instead it's towards the reader that there can never be a complete exchange of information that doesn't have some degree of slippage between the reader and the writer.
