The Trial of Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc's trial so spectacular is the fact that it was so well recorded. Trial dress continued to be important a hundred and something years later in 1586 when Mary Queen of Scots was tried for treason. For her actual execution at the pyre, she was dressed in a rough tunic of either gray or black and was forced to wear a hat that read: Hermetic relapse apostate idolater.
