CHAPTER

I Don't Care That My Electric Bill Was 70 Dollars This Month

Time is more important than gold, right? It's more important than pretty much anything else we have. Why spend that time doing things that aren't really helping you and are making you upset? Or can i pay somebody to do like, as as abhorrent as it would seem to my own brain to li have somebody cut the lawn? I don't really like doing it. Would it make my life better commenserate with the amount of money i'm spending? It probably would. But again, like even i'm hesitant, yordnt even when i'm talking to you, a no nobe, hesitant. We have these habits. All we can do is control what activities we

And it's interesting, like, when you are more introspective and you are looking your life, it's almost similar to that, that thing i was tocking by with gluton and the alogies or whatever. It's just applying that little bit of intentionality of saying, ok, even lik as you were saying that, dona, i'm thinking about, like, ok, what are the things that i do in my life that i just do out of habit, that are just a waste of time? Like even, like i talk about, i track my finances. And, and i don't spend that much time it in the grand scheme of things, like month to month on finances, but every quarter i track my net worth. And that that's easy. That takes a few minutes. But for some weird reason, i also do, because i'm a stupid accountant, i do, like an income statement. Am like track every in and out on my bank own and like, have this great spread sheet. And, i mean, it takes me a couple of hours, like every once a quarter. And granit's only four times a year. But at this point, i dread the damned thing. And i don't know why i'm doing it any more, ik, i don't actually look at it. I don't care that my electric bill was 70 dollars this month. I suppose to, i don't even look. I mean, it doesn't matter what it is, the prio like, that's not even the purpose of doing the sheet. There's no purpose to doing the sheet. It's just because i've always done it. So, again, this is but one example. And this is only going to save me maybe eight hours of an entire year. But how many of those eight hour things per year can i cut that i'm just doing out of habit for no reason whatever, just because that's what i do? Or, frankly, how many things that take up an hour a week more substantial can i cut out? Or can i pay somebody to do like, as as abhorrent as it would seem to my own brain to li have somebody cut the lawn? I don't really like doing it. My wife doesn't like doing it. And like, would it kill me to spend, whatever it is, forty box, 50 box, to get the lawn mod? No. I mean, it really wouldn't. Would it make my life better commenserate with the amount of money i'm spending? It probably would. But again, like even i'm hesitant, yordnt even when i'm talking to you, a no nobe, hesitant. It's

hard. We have these habits. Andthe i frame it again is you have a limited time on this earth, and time passes no matter what you do. So the only control you really have is what activities you put in these little time slots, ar wht you can call the time slot, a day, a week, a month, an hour, however you wanted to find these time slots. But we have a limited number of them. We have no idea how many, but it' set right? Time passes. We can't change it. All we can do is control what activities we put in those time slots. So the question is, how many of those time slots are you filling with things that, a, are unnecessary? B, adding friction, or c, you could pay some one else to do it? And in this the trade off of the money for having that time open to do something else that's more gratifying is worth it. Time is more important than gold, right? It's more important than pretty much anything else we have. Why spend that time doing things that aren't really helping you and are making you upset? Like it's most worth saying, i would pay money to have that time open, to do something that's gratifying instead of something i hate, right? And so when you start thinking about that calculation, then you start thinking about, hay, i'm financialy independent and i'm a little over my goals as it is. Or even, you know, i'm going to work a few extra hours at a side hustle that i joy, which is going to make money, even though i'm financially independent. And i'm going to use that money to relieve my guilt of having some one mow the lawn. And so what you've done as you've subtracted out an activity you don't like, mowing your lawn, and you've replaced it with a side hustle happens to generate a little income, but it's something that you're passionate about, or you do like that's a great trade. Financially independent or not, that's a fabulous trait off. Yes,
