Is There a Difference Between Indifference Culture and Honor Culture?
There is a tension between what you call indifference culture and honor culture, which you talk about at length in the book. In an indifference culture, no one's kind of watching to see if you're doing good or bad but there are things worth honoring in that community. And ultimately, there's this great philosopher, Alastair McIntyre, who says all senses of personal meaning and heroism in your own life only exist because a community is around you telling you what is meaningful or important.
