Nietzsche's psychology is very similar in many ways to the psychology put forward by modern evolutionary psychologists. He says that we have a variety of drives, and these drives compete with each other. For Nietzsche, the optimal strategy was what he called sublimation: We want to sublimate our drives in the service of a higher project.
