The Navy Marine Mammal Program's NOCM
NOCM was one of six beluga whales that were captured legally in 1977 off the coast of Manitoba. The researchers nicknamed him NOCM after these biting midges called NOCM's because I think they're really small and they bite you. He worked as a troop for a little bit before being transitioned into just research studies. But he died, unfortunately, of meningitis in 1999.
