She devoted herself to spiritual practice and helping pilgrims. She had connections with the desert fathers, the early group of Christian ascetics who practiced austerities all their life. So she would guide these promising young men and she saw that this Evagrius was really promising. So she told him that you should become a monk and live your rest of your life. Since you want to search for God all your life and you don't want anything else, then do this. He agreed and she took him to a group of monks whom she supported gave money - they were very austere. We hear about how austere he himself was. How he would stand in the cold of the desert night in
"Do not pray for the fulfillment of your wishes, for they may not accord with the will of God. But pray as you have been taught, saying: Thy will be done in me (cf. Luke 22:42). Always entreat Him in this way - that His will be done. For He desires what is good and profitable for you, whereas you do not always ask for this." - Evagrius Ponticus.
