Studying the Effects of Antidepressants on Synaptic Density
A study using PET scans to detect synaptic activity in live human brains found that participants who took an antidepressant drug had more synapses than those who took a placebo. The results suggest that synaptic changes accumulate over time and support the theory that augmenting positive emotions has a cumulative effect on mood.
