Woolf's essay Woman of Fiction was published a year after she delivered the lecture. The book is based on an anonymous 16th century Scottish ballad called 'The Four Mayards' Woolf takes this very ruthless cruel legendary story partly because she wants, to be like a fiction, or like a fable, orlike a legend,. She doesn't want it to be a set of hard facts, she wants to amuse and entertain so that's one reason. And also I think it's very important because she has an idea of community, of works not being single masterpieces but works of fiction and works of writing coming out of what you inherit from your mother's.
