Is There a Shadow Inflation?
The fed uses a different inflation measure called personal consumption expenditures that's risen less. Some goods like gas and used cars have gotten away more expensive, whereas the delta variant has pushed prices for airfare and travel down. There are so many layers of events that have overtaken the economy in the last 18 months that it's really hard to distinguish between event driven stuff and things that are artifacts of fiscal and monetary policy.
