The history of how gender has functioned in the philippines, i think, is also relevant to those of our listeners in the united states and north america. colonial impositions of gender, and of capitalism as well, were used to destroy and genecide cultures that had differing systems of gender. And we can look to movements like the national democratic movement in order to see on the ground how these issues are being handled,. not just an abstract, theoretical question.
