The Head on a Spike
Oliver Cromwell's son Richard was the longest-lived British head of state. He resigned in 1659 and lived out his life until 1712, when he died at age 85. His remains were dug up posthumously and put on a spike for 25 years before they were removed. The most amazing thing about this whole thing is that it lasted so long.
