The Importance of the Cold War Era

I was surprised to learn in the book about the substantial community in Panama, and particularly, for example, like some of the food being very much derived from, or very similar to Chinese food. So I think that's a really important point to make. China has been aware of this relationship with the US, and they have been aware about how weak the relationship is. But diplomatically, they know that the US has a lot of duty laundry in the region. And for that reason, they capitalized on this in the sense that they don't have that much of that. They only have to be marginally better than the US to be seen as a different, more benign actor.
