Turkmen Bashi's Legacy
Turkmenistan remains one of the most tightly controlled and repressive places on the globe. Turkmen Bashi dismantled much of the social safety net that the Soviet Union offered to people. There is a lot of dissatisfaction, but at the same time, I think most people are not willing to risk their lives. They're willing to just kind of tune it out and try to live their lives as best they can.
