Hobbs is a dyhart empiricist, and he starts this treatise with epistemology. He does that in most of his writings. And here we have something that, you know, as you said, is a hypothetical. One could accuse him of reverse engineering english common law and the state of english society to come up with a premise that would ground that just trying to follow kind of natural law.
