The American chestnut has this ability to kind of limp along from a stump. We would like to plant out in areas where there are chestnuts already present and growing. Another thing that people do is they collect cyan wood from those wild trees and graft them into orchards so that they can be crossed with their genetics. There have been some attempts to use bio controls.
