In 2020, Richard Sharp applied for and was successfully appointed BBC chairman. That happened hot on the heels of various discussions about Boris Johnson's personal finances. A report found that Sharp had failed to disclose potential perceived and actual conflicts of interest. The big issue at the heart of all of this is the fact that he was involved in conversations that led to a loan of up to £800,000 being extended to Johnson.
