The Importance of Identity in Art

I started writing this book in 2019 and there are a lot of conversations in social media and in our countries. Newspapers around race and how race should and could be written about. I felt myself being folded up into categories that didn't make sense for me or my art. There is a way in which like our identities become marketing slogans for our art. It's so bad. Who can say why?
