In 2017, more than two thirds of adults 65 and over didn't have dental insurance. A 2019 study found that one in seven of the US population needed dental care, but did not get it. In 2013, only 14% of total health care costs were paid out of pocket; when it comes to dentistry, that figure rises to almost half.
