The Role of the Wolf in the Grim Brothers
The wolf was crucial in archaic thinking as representative of the human wild side. Wolves were envisioned again as this sort of pure raw aggression but it's worth noting that actually that wolves are good mothers and they work together in cooperative packs. In some of the cultures where people would put on wolf skins as part of religious ritual that it was a way of taking on our own wildness and our own wild power. I love that idea of the wolf's stomach being a portal to something else.
