What Is the Role of the Chair in a Court?

The most obvious form of that is the throne. But then we have the papalin the papal chairs. We have the sort of, we still have this idea that the chairs signifies a certain kind of authority. If somebody's given a stool in a court, that also represents a lack of authority, for instance. And so a lot of the court culture, by the nineteenth century, gets translated into a the salon, into the parlor rooms, into the middle class cultures.
