Introduction

The story of Broadcom really begins back in the 1960s, when most semiconductors were designed and manufactured by hardware companies. Hewlett-Packard was starting to realize that having an internal chip division was sub-optimal. And so they set out to spin off all of HP's non-core businesses into a company called Agilent.
