Sediments found at the bottom of lakes can provide a natural record of the climate conditions inside a big walk in fridge. Mark brenaman o, professor in geological sciences at the university of florida studies sediment cores from lake bottoms around the world. The beauty of lake sediments is that they ccumulate in a very orderly fashion. And so if you take a core down through those, you basically have these nice layers, much like a a cake.
