Lee gordon struggled earnestly to explain the negro workers attitude toward discrimination. They had accepted it as part of the role they lived, as a condition of existence. Without unionism, they would expect discrimination. Under the company merit system, negroes could at least hope that by application and hard work, superior acumen and uncle tomming, that they might get a better job.
