How Did Nightingale's Work Shape the Modern World?
There is a tradition of information graphics being used to advocate for some sort of social progress. We can think all the way back to British abolitionists using the slave ship diagram. And so I see the warming stripes as the latest successful entry into that tradition. It's still very difficult to tell the computer to do what you want it to do, but we're changing quickly.
