How to Limit Your Potassium and Phosphorus Levels
In babies you can kind of let it ride pretty high but usually once they get a little bit older I'll typically say above 5.5 is when I'll start to consider first limiting their potassium and their diet, then potentially doing a potassium binder after that. So phosphors are much trickier because kids are still mineralizing their bones so we'll actually tolerate pretty high phosphorus for kids. Even though the upper limit of normal is 4.5 typically I'll start a phosphor binder when it gets consistently above 5.4. For kids under 13 you should actually look at the k-dokey guidelines for what a normal upper limit of phosphorus is as well.
